ghosting:
chapter 1
A postcard project conceived and completed in the beginning
of COVID-19, March-April 2020
Connection and collaboration in the time of COVID-19, self isolation, and collective anxiety. The theme of the postcards, “The Haunted-Heart Committee”, began as a vague nod towards isolation, but eventually developed into thoughts on the modern phenomenon known as “ghosting” and navigating relationships through technology in the 21st century. The postcards combine collage style imagery, found text, personal sketches, and some bits of writing I’ve done over the years excavated from the depths of my phone notes. By sending these incomplete analog thoughts on ghosting through the postal system, the words physically traveling over rivers, mountains, and even oceans, it offers a strange juxtaposition to the technology-reliant modes of contemporary communication.
